The Catalan Film Academy will present the 2012 Gaudí of Honour to Pere Portabella in recognition of his outstanding career.
Portabella is one of the most internationally-oriented Catalan directors and one of the only Spanish filmmakers to have been dedicated a retrospective by MoMA in New York, along with Luis Buñuel and Pedro Almodóvar.
Barcelona, 20 December 2011.- The Catalan Film Academy will present the 2012 Gaudí of Honour to Pere Portabella, director, screenwriter and producer, with over five decades of experience in the world of cinema. During his career, Portabella has worked with directors such as Carlos Saura and Luis Buñuel, to create some of the most emblematic films of Catalan cinema.
The Catalan Film Academy has chosen Pere Portabella for being one of the most cutting-edge filmmakers in his exploration of cinematographic discourse and for his enormous prestige and international acclaim. His filmography has been the focus of retrospectives at leading art galleries such as the Georges Pompidou in Paris (2003) and the MoMA in New York (2007).
Pere Portabella will receive the Gaudí of Honour at the IV Gaudí Awards ceremony, on 6 February 2012, at the Artèria Paral·lel theatre. The three most recent award winners were: the actor Jordi Dauder (2010) and the directors Josep Maria Forn (2009) and Jaime Camino (2008).
