Last May 14 was held at the Hotel Palace in Barcelona, the former Ritz, the solemn act of laying of the Great Cross of Humanitarian Merit for the 2011. At the ceremony was decorated Josep M. Queraltó, founder of Suministros Kelonik company and President of Aula de Cine Foundation Josep M. Queraltó Collection, who was recognized for his work in recovery and conservation of film heritage for more than three decades.
The Institution of Humanitarian Merit, created in Barcelona in 1999, is an apolitical association and non-profit organization that annually honors with the Great Cross of Merit Humanitarian to prominent personalities for their human values. The board is now chaired by Don Emilio López-Navarro.
Among the winners with the Grand Cross of Merit Humanitarian are the sculptor Eduardo Chillida, the painter Félix Revello de Toro, the ophthalmologist Luis Fernández-Vega & Diego, the engineer Juan José Arenas de Pablo, the American geneticist Research Science and Technology 2001, Francis Collins, former head of the House of His Majesty the King, Sabino Fernández Campo, the actor Peter Ustinov, the Nobel Prize in Medicine 2000, David Carlsson, the poet Miquel Martí i Pol, the writer Francisco Ayala, and the Russian cellist and conductor, Mstislav Rostropovich, among a long list.
