A total of 27 films nominated for a Gaudí in the seventh year of the Catalan cinema awards

The nominees for the VIIth Gaudí awards were announced the 30th of December at a public reading held in the La Pedrera Auditorium by the actors and Academy members Clara Segura and Pere Arquillué. Out of the 78 entries, 27, including short films, documentaries and TV films, have been nominated in one of the 22 categories of the Catalan Film Academy awards after the first round of voting by its members.

Four productions are competing for the Gaudí award for Best Film, which will be collected by the producer: Born, written and directed by Claudio Zulian, and produced by ActeonL'altra frontera, directed by André Cruz Shiraiwa, written by André Cruz Shiraiwa and Aurora Sulli, and produced by Cinedegarage and Televisió de CatalunyaRastres de sàndal, directed by Maria Ripoll, written by Anna Soler-Pont, and produced by Pontas Films; and Stella Cadente, directed by Lluís Miñarro, written by Sergi Belbel and Lluís Miñarro, and produced by Eddie Saeta.

The nominees for the Gaudí award for the Best film in a foreign language are: 10 000 KM, directed by Carlos Marques-Marcet, written by Carlos Marques-Marcet and Clara Roquet, and produced by Lastor Media and La Panda ProductionsEl Niño, directed by Daniel Monzón, written by Jorge Guerricaechevarría and Daniel Monzón, and produced by Ikiru FilmsTelecinco CinemaVaca Films and La Ferme! ProductionsHermosa juventud, directed by Jaime Rosales, written by Jaime Rosales and Enric Rufas, and produced by Fresdeval Films and Wanda Visión; and [REC]4: Apocalipsis, directed by Jaume Balagueró, written by Jaume Balagueró and Manu Díez, and produced by Castelao Pictures and Rec Apocalipse A.I.E.

In the category of Best actress in a leading role, the nominees are Aina Clotet for Rastres de sàndalBàrbara Lennie for Stella CadenteIngrid García-Jonsson for Hermosa juventud; and Natalia Tena for 10 000 KM. The nominees for the award for best actor in a leading role are Àlex Brendemühl for Stella CadenteDavid Verdaguer for 10 000 KMJesús Castro for El Niño and Luis Tosar, also for El Niño.

The nominees for Best screenplay are Carlos Marques-Marcet and Clara Roquet for 10 000 KMDaniel Monzón and Jorge Guerricaechevarría for El Niño;  Jaime Rosales and Enric Rufas for Hermosa juventud and Lluís Miñarro and Sergi Belbel for Stella Cadente.

El Niño is the film up for most awards, with 15 nominations, including Best film in a foreign language, Best director and Best screenplay. Stella Cadente comes close behind with 13 nominations, also including Best Film, Best director and Best screenplay, followed by [REC]4: Apocalipsis with 9 nominations, including Best film in a foreign language, which is the leader in the technical categories such as Best special/digital effects, Best makeup and hairstyling and Best film editing.

Rastres de sàndal and 10 000 KM are tied on 8 nominations, both competing in the categories of Best actress in a leading role and Best production director. They are followed by Hermosa juventud with 5 nominations, Born with 4, L'altra frontera with 3 nominations, Mortadel·lo i Filemó contra en Jimmy el Catxondo and the documentary Els anys salvatges with 2 each. In the Best documentary feature category, both Bugarach and Els anys salvatges were directed by Ventura Durall. Two female directors, Laura García and Patricia Font, have been nominated for the Gaudí for the Best short film, both produced by Escac Films.

In the category of Best European film, the Academy members have nominated two Spanish films, La isla mínima and Magical Girl, together with La Grande Bellezza, winner of the EFA award for Best European film in 2013 and of the Oscar for the Best foreign film in 2014, and Ida, the Polish film which is following in its footsteps, after winning the EFA award for Best European film in 2014 and being nominated for the Oscar for the Best foreign film in 2015.

A total of 78 films were entered for the seventh year of the Gaudí awards, including 38 feature-length films, of which 10 were in Catalan, 16 in a language other than Catalan, 10 European and 2 animated features (2), plus 17 documentary features, 6 TV films, 10 short films selected by a committee and 7 films featuring Catalan talent.

The second round of voting began on 7 January 2015, starting the final race for the awards, which will be handed out on 1 February 2015 at the Sant Jordi Club on Montjuïc in a gala broadcast by Televisió de Catalunya and presented by Àngel Llàcer.

The family photo of the nominees for the seventh Gaudí awards will be taken on Wednesday 21 January at 11.30 at the Palauet Albéniz in Barcelona, in a ceremony presided over by Xavier Trias, Mayor of Barcelona.

During the seventh Gaudí awards ceremony, the director Ventura Pons will receive the honorary Gaudí-Miquel Porter award for his career.
