The Catalan Film Academy will organize an annual Award Celebration with the aim of promoting the best movies, artists and technicians of Catalonian film sector.
Academy’s Awards come from Barcelona’s Awards, which were created in 2002 by the Catalonian Film Directors Association as a follow-up to the Christmas’ lunch at Port de Barcelona organized by the same association. Directors who had had a premiere during the ongoing year were invited, as well as the other professionals who were part of the film (such as producers, cinematographers and actors), TV3, ICIC, SGAE and the medias. Catalonian Film Directors Association wanted to strengthen Catalan films, a film industry whose identity was being deny. Lunch’s desert came with a mention of successful films that had been screened that year and compromises of all entities that were on the lunch.
Academy’s main goal on organizing the Academy’s Awards is to give them the same prestige as the other European and international awards, since the Academy, which votes and decides who will be awarded, is the institution that joins all the best Catalonian film professionals.
